It’s not the easiest gig at a university considered one of the most liberal in the Midwest. Still, last Thursday, members of Young Conservatives of KU stood a hundred yards east of Wescoe Beach, trying to interest passers-by in joining their ranks. Young men handed out American flag lapel ribbons and urged people to remember the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11.

Deep in the heart of Texas, amid an ocean of red, is a single blue dot.

By far the most liberal city in a state long considered a conservative bastion, Austin has a history of activism. Thousands showed up to march for civil rights in the 1960s, and thousands marched for immigrant rights in 2006.

September 11, 2001, was etched into America’s memory when 19 terrorists attacked us with barbarity unequaled in our history. On Patriot Day, we cherish the memory of the thousands of innocent victims lost, extend our thoughts and prayers to their families, and honor the heroic men and women who risked and sacrificed their lives so others might survive.

Remembering 9/11 on Patriot Day:

Seven years have come and gone since thousands of Americans lost their lives on September 11, 2201, and as the anniversary draws near, one Texas A&M organization is making sure we never forget that day.

There’s a lot going on this week at the different chapters across the state.

In Nacogdoches, stop by the first YCT meeting of the year at Stephen F. Austin State University and listen to a guest speaker, have some free pizza, and meet and greet with your fellow conservatives.

At A&M University in College Station, YCT is hosting a debate on terrorism.
